If you warn people about the location of police roadblocks on public forums, Durban Metro Police says you’re breaking the law.
Spokesperson, Parbhoo Sewpersadh says they are investigating after information about roadblocks in the city this past weekend was published on Facebook and WhatsApp.
Warnings were sent out about police checks being conducted on Saturday night along Higginson Highway, Umgeni and Florida Roads as well as in parts of Malvern and Reservoir Hills.
Sewpersadh says they were targeting drunk drivers and were also checking the road worthiness of vehicles.
He says by alerting people to roadblocks – you’re not helping potentially dangerous drivers.
“A case of defeating the ends of justice will apply – depending on the investigation to conduct road blocks in a very professional manner. We are investigating this internally and externally. We will bring the perpetrators to book, once the investigation is complete,” he says.
Sewpersadh says charges will depend on the investigation.
“We have people out there who are actually misleading users on Facebook and posting the location or posting the wrong location to the public,” he says.
