Durban IT specialist accused of insurance wire fraud

Mandisa Somhlaba, 34, appeared within the Durban Specialised Business Crime Courtroom this week for alleged fraud.

It is understood Somhlaba labored as an IT Specialist for an organization that supplied pc help to a serious insurance coverage firm in Durban.

Hawks officers say for 12 months, from April 2014, Somhlaba allegedly downloaded purchasers’ private data – together with their financial institution particulars.

He handed it on to his accomplices, and R253 was deducted from the unsuspecting victims’ accounts each month.

Detectives say the insurance coverage firm needed to repay their purchasers and suffered a complete lack of R1.9 million.

Somhlaba’s case was postponed to the tip of this month – for additional investigations.
