Durban – An 81-year-old woman was strangled, robbed and left for dead at her home in Silverglen, Durban on Monday morning.
The pensioner, who was alone at the premises when she was attacked, was duped into opening the gate by her attackers, one of whom was allegedly known to her.
According to paramedic, Lukcanis Padayachee, from Amawele Emergency Services, the elderly woman told him that she had turned her back to fetch something which the man claimed to have left at her premises, when she was attacked.
It is alleged that when she regained consciousness, the jewellery, that she was wearing on her neck and hands, were missing.
The woman was treated for strangulation and injuries to her neck and had difficulty breathing. She was transported to a local hospital for further medical attention.
Communications officer of Bayview SAPS, W/O Collin Chetty, confirmed that a case of attempted murder is being investigated.

Meanwhile, a family in Havenside was robbed of their belongings after armed robbers stormed into their home, on Sunday.
W/O Collin Chetty, explained that six armed men gained entry into the premises on Havenside Drive. “The suspects fled with television sets, personal belongings and a vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered in Lamontville,” added W/O Chetty.
Spokesman for Amawele Emergency Services, Sivan Soobramodey, explained that a 77-year-old woman was robbed of her belongings and another four people, who were in the house, were injured.
